Erytra, a wealthy prince born in Pars, to whom the name of the Erythra Sea is attributed, and whose name is widely used in the books of the Greeks and Romans, and European maps until the 18th century show it for the Indian Ocean and the North Indian Ocean, the Sea of Oman, the Persian Gulf, the Sea Red and Arabian Sea have been used.

The travel book of Periplus (a voyage map), the oldest sea guidebook, describes the Erythraean Sea in the travels of a Greek from Alexandria to the Persian Gulf in 66 parts, and describes the Erythraean Sea and its Persian islands like the Zenobians and considers the coasts of the Persian Gulf to be Persian people. This travelogue is related to the years between 50 and 100 AD.

Since this book called the Indian Ocean and the northern Indian Ocean, the Oman Sea, the Persian Gulf, the Red Sea and the Arabian Sea as the Erythraean Sea, in many western sources in the 14th to 16th centuries these places were also called Erytra.

In a part of this travelogue, it has been mentioned that the Persian Gulf is a sea stretching from Humana (Oman) to the west, at the end of which is Aplogos. Obleh is located and its ruler is known for justice. The word “obleh” is definitely changed to Arabic language from Aplogus.

Oplogus or Apollo is described in the travelogue of Periplus that it is at the end of the Persian Sea and its approximate location is the modern city of Abadan in Iran.

There is an island in this sea where a rich prince born in Pars lived on this island at that time.

The reason for his life on this island is a sudden event that happened due to the attack of lions on his herd of mares.

If we consider the intended island as Qeshm or Hormuz, due to the red color of a large part of the coasts of these islands, this red color can also be the name given to the sea, but Agatarchide’s opinion is that the name of Erythra is derived from the name of the Persian ruler of that island.
